Ghana Coat of Arms |
Again, some of us, out of respect for our elders, refuse to comment on the guffs of our statesmen and political leaders, or afraid that they might send their attack dogs after us or might give as 'identification haircut' if we criticise them. That some of them whom "we know since Adam" that they are intolerant of descents, and it was established that they even beat up their Vice President, because of decent still speak as if, they are Arch-Angels from heaven.
Not only that, there were some when they were in opposition, did everything to sabotage the nation, especially the economy; they never saw anything good about their opponents suddenly know who a patriotic citizen is. Yes a patriotic citizen must speak and act responsibly, but they should not forget how they undermined the Republic of Ghana on the altar of excessive partisan politics.
Humm, did I here that the Minister of Agriculture confronted a journalist for referring to him as incompetent, while the actual fact was his own party member called him incompetent and the journalist was referring to it? Wonders shall never end. Or is he telling as that "the elderly or achievers" like him are bigger than public evaluations? Or let me ask again, was he speaking responsibly, when he was calling the former President of Ghana incompetent
No, may be he will denier he called anybody incompetent. Then, when his party members like Madam Otiko were throwing insults left and right, did he advise them against it? In fact, if today insults have become order of the day among the young ones, which group of people should bear the greatest of the blame; it is the politicians like him who know decency and respect, only when they are in power.
Map of Ghana |
Honestly if we want to trace "liberalization and democratization of insults" Papa J", "the Gentle Giant" and even learned Emeritus Professor of History; may his soul rest peace, will never be exonerated. Since the inception of the Fourth Republican Constitution of 1992 and the first elections, descending and honest citizens of Ghana will agree with me that our political leaders started teaching the young once how to insult and degrade each other in the name of democracy and free speech.
Some elderly people can remember the kind of horrible names Professor Adu Boahen called the Head of State J.J Rawlings. I know Ghanaians have not forgotten the names Former President Rawlings himself called the then President John Kufour and President Kufour's replies to Papa J. Do we even forget the vendetta suffered in the hands of President Rawlings and the wife by President Akuffo Addo the then opposition leader? And am sure, we have not forgotten how in the name of opposition at all cause opposition leader Nana Akuffo Addo tried and belittled the learned Tax Law Professor, "Asumguehene" (hope i'm correct) and President of Ghana, JEA Mills, may his gentle soul rest in peace.
Thus, if we can remember the enormous contributions of all these statesmen to democratization of insults and name calling, can we blame the young ones who learnt from them? Or what is good for the Gus is no longer good for the gandas; if am correct?
What I say again and again is that, many of our leaders themselves have lost the moral high grounds, and is like they are telling us we should not copy from their "very good insults" because they were not right, but wrong. In fact some young once are called "babies with sharp feet, which indeed I can associate with, but who did they learn the skills from, isn't the old boys and girls? Can't you agree with me that, the young once from the two main parties, NPP/NDC, if degrees would be awarded could score "First Class Honours" and even score "Upper Divisions" in insults and vilification of opponents?
Actually, the brutalities and insults we see and here metered out to our dear nation by politicians today are manifestations of gradual degenerations of our values which we took for granted. And, if our country will arise to the " moral high grounds" of yesteryears, the elderly own us apologies to demonstrate that they really regret the moral degeneration maturity they contributed immensely to.
Let's all rise up for the truth and sell it not, let's edify our souls and the soul of our nation Ghana with truth, honesty and humility. So help us God. I stand for the truth #IStandForJustice and #IStandForTheNationalInterestGod bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong.
